Choose the Right Company to Safari with in Kenya | A How To

(How To)

Recently a reader asked me what safari company I would recommend for visiting the breath-taking Masai Mara. Below was my response. While many of the details I give specifically relate to taking a safari in the Mara, the broader outline and questions one should think about can apply to taking any safari while in Kenya as well as the rest of Africa.

A Photographic Walk Through the Treasures of Islamic Cairo | Egypt

(A Travel Experience)

On July 7, 2010, Zack, Nicole and I ventured around Cairo to one of its most culturally and historically treasured areas known as Islamic Cairo. Only a short cab ride from downtown, Islamic Cairo offers a great glimpse into both the past and present life of Muslims within Cairo and Egypt, so eloquently displayed in the towering minarets and ancient mosques that dot and define the landscape around this area. Below is a small snapshot of our walk through this wonderful and interesting area visiting some of the oldest constructed mosques in the world, mosques that are still active and in use today. Maybe that’s exactly why this area remains so interesting to visit, despite its historical heritage it’s still alive and full of life from the busy markets that surround the area to the people that still come to pray and learn within the mosques. Below is a photographic snapshot as we explored the area by foot.

The Best Tips for Dealing with Taxis while Traveling and Abroad | A How To

(How To)

While a taxis personality seems to be consistent from country to country, the practice of hiring a taxi when you need to get somewhere is not. While in North America we may used to calling up a cab when we need one and then following the meter to know exactly how much to pay (tip not included of course!) it’s not quite as straightforward in other countries, although it definitely can be as simple.

The Ten Best National Parks in Africa | Top 10

(TOP 10)
Africa is a treasure trove of adventure and excitement but nothing in Africa quite compares to its natural beauty, symbolized the world-over in the ‘safari,’ meaning ‘journey’ in Swahili. With stunning, epic landscapes, and animals more ‘real’ than you can ever imagine or hope to see first-hand at a zoo, as a whole, Africa remains unchallenged for its ability to draw you into the natural world like no other. With so many wonderful national parks to choose from, this Top 10 list is by no means definitive, in fact it would be quite hard to truly rank these places of natural wonder, especially as one’s experience is often so determined by the luck of Mother Nature. Nevertheless, none of these ten parks will disappoint and hopefully after visiting one of them, it will only encourage you to visit another and then another and then another.
